Where has she been?

It has been one of those weeks where I haven’t been as visible outside but I have been here honestly. It is such a lovely part of my day saying good morning to everyone that I really do miss it. Sometimes though I am plugged into my laptop and cannot move, on a training course or helping out inside because staff are poorly. The sun has emerged but it seems to have brought temperatures and germs. There is always something going round in school isn’t there.

Year R had their first trip on a coach to Wellington Country Park and it was a roaring success. The sun shone, no-one fell in the lake and no-one brought a guinea pig back in their ruck sack. The teachers were so proud that members of the public commented on how well behaved our children were in the cafe eating their lunch. Mrs Foster couldn’t speak highly enough of the educational content of the visit and how much the children learnt about the animals. It isn’t cheap to go on school trips so we need to make sure that we get value for money and we certainly did. Quite a few children slept on the coach on the way back which is also a good sign too! Finally and the icing on the cake, we didn’t need any magic newspaper that children sit on to stop them feeling sick.

World Book Day has come and gone for another year but at Tavistock we are surrounded by books all the time. We are so lucky to have a wide range of books in our classrooms, library and our little library outside Dormouse Nest. We are surrounded by technology which is simply amazing but the power of snuggling up with a book cannot be underestimated. Whenever I walk round the classrooms there are always children in our book corners and one of our lovely governors commented on an visit to EY that even though we have computers and tablets in classrooms none of the children were using the technology, they were all interacting with their friends both inside and out. A balance of both worlds is just the ticket.

Did I mention last week I am going to be a grandma? 😂 My daughter has her NHS scan today and I am very excited to see the little chap again. It would be lovely if he could come to Tavistock when he is school age but that is perhaps thinking too far into the future! Plus the commute from Portsmouth would be quite long. Tavistock is a wonderful place for children to be educated and if you have got friends who are still thinking about this September, we have got spaces so do let them know. Never too late to change your mind.

Have a lovely weekend and you won’t believe it but it is Frittata week again.
