Welcome Back!
I hope you all had a lovely half term break. Didn’t it fly by! We have just entered the second half of our Spring term with lots of exciting things planned such as World Book Day, a Dinosaur Workshop and Giants in School Day. Thank you to all those who managed to attend the book looks on either Tuesday or Thursday of this week. It’s a nice opportunity for you to be able to see your child’s work and what they have been up to in class.
This week, in maths, we have been practising reading, writing and ordering numbers to 100. We have also been finding 1 more and 1 less of numbers to 100. Next week in maths we will be increasing our fluency of number. We will remind ourselves how to build numbers using tens and ones. We will also practise crossing the tens which can be rather tricky. Finally, we will be looking at 10 more and 10 less than any given number to 100 and talking about how only the tens change and the ones stay the same.
In English, we are focussing on the book ‘How to look after your Dinosaur’ by Jason Cockcroft. We started the week by learning about the un- prefix and the -ed suffix and we applied these in our sentences. Then we looked at how instructions have adverbs, verbs and time connectives. We will be thinking about and role-playing how to look after a dinosaur so that we can know the sequence of instructions and understand how they should be carried out. Next week in English, we will be learning about groups of letters that come after a word and change the meaning of the word. We will be learning about past tense and What the rules are when adding -ed to a word. Sometimes add -ed or if it has an e at the end just add -d.
Just a few reminders:
- Please make sure all your child’s belongings are labelled. Things do go missing and I’m convinced there is a black hole somewhere in the school that sucks them in and they never come back.
- Please send your child’s water bottle and book bag into school every day.
- PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE – Our Year 1 PE day is now on a Monday for Bumblebee Class and Tuesday for Hedgehog Class.
- Reading books in school are changed once a week and this will be every Monday. The books will be collected in in the morning and a new one will be issued that same afternoon.
- Library book change will be on a Friday.
Dates:
Tuesday 4th March – TAFF Pancake Flip
