Week 5 and the weather is horrible…
As I’m writing the blog this afternoon, the rain is pouring down and we’ve had sleet and hailstones. The children have had wet play so it may be a rowdy afternoon! I really hope it clears up before the weekend.
Today, the children were able to wear a scarf in school to remind us all about the importance of our mental health and wellbeing. In Year 2 we use the ‘My Happy Mind’ programme to learn about the brain and how to keep it happy with modules based on gratitude, celebration and relationships. The children really enjoy these sessions, sharing their ideas with one another as well as learning some very catchy songs along the way. Sometimes within the episode there is a ‘Happy Breathing’ segment where we all close our eyes and really concentrate on our breath and stillness.
Today everyone has finished their own version of the ‘Toys in Space’ story. The children have worked hard over the past week, building their stories and we are really looking forward to marking them properly over the next few days.
In maths, we were working on subtracting a 2-digit number from another 2-digit number. There were a lot of steps involved with the process, but hats off to everyone, mission accomplished!
Yesterday we had a bit of a treat as we had an Internet Safety Workshop visitor in school. The children always have a revisit to internet safety at the beginning of each new school year but as it is such an important subject, it never hurts to revisit the conversation frequently.
Next week is the last week of this half term and there is the TAFF school disco on Friday, which always generates a lot of excitement. On Monday, there will be book change as normal as well as the usual spelling test. Thank you for supporting your child in their reading and spelling, it really does make a huge difference.
We hope you all have a lovely weekend and maybe even get a lie-in?
Kind regards
The Year 2 Team.
