We love READING!

What a great World Book Day we had on Thursday! The children looked fantastic dressed up in their costumes. We had such a variety of Lion King related characters and colour combinations. The children were so excited to show off their outfits during a catwalk we had in class. We spent Thursday afternoon in a Lion King Dance Workshop which was fantastic! The children loved learning and showing off their dance moves. If you haven’t already seen, take a look on our website at all the photos, they are absolutely brilliant!

This week in maths, we have been increasing our fluency of number. We reminded ourselves how to build numbers using tens and ones. We also practised crossing the tens which can be rather tricky. Finally, we looked at 10 more and 10 less than any given number to 100 and we noticed how only the tens change and the ones stay the same. Next week, we will be learning how to tell the time! We will start off by learning about the layout of a clock face and what the minute and hour hand represents. We will then practise telling the time using O’clock and half past the hour.

In English, we looked at groups of letters that come after a word and change the meaning of the word. We talked about past tense and what the rules are when adding -ed to a word. Sometimes add -ed or if it has an e at the end just add -d. Next week, we will be learning about verbs, what a verb is and lots of examples of verbs. We will also be reminding ourselves of time connectives. Towards the end of the week, we will be writing a set of instructions of how to look after a dinosaur using everything we have learnt over the last few weeks.

Just a few reminders:

  • Please make sure all your child’s belongings are labelled. Things do go missing and I’m convinced there is a black hole somewhere in the school that sucks them in and they never come back.
  • Please send your child’s water bottle and book bag into school every day.

PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE – Our Year 1 PE day is now on a Monday for Bumblebee Class and Tuesday for Hedgehog Class.

  • Reading books in school are changed once a week and this will be every Monday. The books will be collected in in the morning and a new one will be issued that same afternoon.
  • Library book change will be on a Friday.

Dates:

Monday 31st March – Dinosaur Workshop

Wednesday 2nd April – Giants in School Day

Friday 4th April – Last day of term

We like to think of ourselves as a friendly and approachable team and if there is anything you have concerns about, please let us know and we will do our best to help.

Have a lovely weekend and see you all next week!
