The Dinosaurs Came to School

Thank you SO much for the fantastic dinosaur creations you made at home with your child. They look absolutely fantastic and are currently on display around the classrooms which is lovely to see! The dinosaurs had a great day at school on Tuesday! They joined in snack time, listened to the children do some reading and posed for many photos! Just a reminder that next week is parents evening. The face to face one is on Tuesday and the virtual one is Wednesday. You will have received an email with your confirmed time but if you can’t remember then please contact the office ahead of your appointment.

On Tuesday, we all enjoyed our roar-tastic day with our dinosaurs as well as recapping last weeks learning, some drama activities and lots of discussion. On Wednesday, we looked at some photos and put the will them in chronological order. We then spent Thursday writing a diary entry about our fun day. Next week, we will be learning about question sentences. We will start with learning the question words “what, why, where, how and who” and we will practise asking and writing questions with a question mark.

In maths, we have continued with place value. We used coins to show 10ps and 1ps to make amounts up to 50p. We created a maths poster by picking a number between 20-50 and showed it in various ways such as using diennes, coins, cherry diagrams, number sentences, number lines etc. We finished the week with some reasoning. Next week in maths, we will be learning about fractions! We will be finding a fraction of a shape, a number and then a quantity. We will start off with ½ then move onto ¼.

Just a few reminders:  

• Please make sure all your child’s belongings are labelled. Things do go missing and I’m convinced there is a black hole somewhere in the school that sucks them in and they never come back. 
• Please send your child’s water bottle and book bag into school every day.
• Our Year 1 PE day is on a Monday for Hedgehogs and Tuesday for Bumblebees.
• Reading books in school are changed once a week and this will be every Monday. The books will be collected in in the morning and a new one will be issued that same afternoon.
• Library book change will be on a Friday.
