Red Noses
What a fun way to end the week! The children enjoyed coming into school wearing the colour red or their own clothes to raise awareness for Red Nose Day. They also enjoyed designing their own red noses this afternoon – some of the designs should be put forward to the BBC they are so good! We also finished off our fun science lessons this week including food chains, habitats and learning more about fossils. On Monday, please send your child in with a shoe box or something similar along with some natural materials such as leaves, twigs, moss, grass etc as the children are going to be creating their very own Dinosaur habitat and leaving them on display to view each other’s creations.
This week in maths, we have been learning about measurement. We started with non-standard units, moving swiftly onto standard units. We then compared and described different lengths, widths or heights using the appropriate language. Next week, we are going to be revisiting number bonds. We will use numbers up to 10 to show different ways to be make each number including cherry diagrams, money, pictorial representations, tens frames and number sentences.
In English, we have been creating fun fact files about dinosaurs and making a whole class book to put them in. We learnt about the difference between facts and opinions and sorted them into the correct piles. Next week, we will be refreshing our minds about grammar. We will look at full stops and capital letters as well as using ‘and’ and ‘because’ to extend sentences. We will then use our dinosaur habitats that we made in science to generate fresh ideas and learn new vocabulary.
Just a few reminders:
- Please make sure all your child’s belongings are labelled. Things do go missing and I’m convinced there is a black hole somewhere in the school that sucks them in and they never come back.
- Please send your child’s water bottle and book bag into school every day.
PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE – Our Year 1 PE day is now on a Monday for Bumblebee Class and Tuesday for Hedgehog Class.
- Reading books in school are changed once a week and this will be every Monday. The books will be collected in in the morning and a new one will be issued that same afternoon.
- Library book change will be on a Friday.
