Love is in the Air
As I am writing this blog, I can hear the children having a blast at the Valentine’s Disco organised by our lovely TAFF. The children have been so excited about the disco and then realising they have not got a week off from school. What a lovely, buzzing end to this half term! We’ve got so much to look forwards to after half term including our Dinosaur Workshop, Giants in School Day and World Book Day.
In maths this week, we have been busy looking at subtraction. We reminded ourselves what it means to subtract and we looked at the – and = symbols in a number sentence. We moved onto using a numberline to subtract a smaller number from a bigger number and wrote the matching number sentences. After half term, we will be practising reading, writing and ordering numbers to 100. We will also been finding 1 more and 1 less of numbers to 100.
In English this week, we have used our new knowledge from the past few weeks to write a postcard to our dinosaur telling them about our trip to Lyme Regis. We included exclamation and question sentences in our postcard and answered the following questions: Where did you go? What did you do? Why did you visit there? After half term, we will be focussing on the book ‘How to look after your Dinosaur’ by Jason Cockcroft. We will start the week by learning about the un- prefix and the -ed suffix and we will be applying these in our sentences. Then we will be beginning to recognise that instructions have adverbs, verbs and time connectives. We will be thinking about and role-playing how to look after a dinosaur so that we can know the sequence of instructions and understand how they should be carried out.
Just a few reminders:
- Please make sure all your child’s belongings are labelled. Things do go missing and I’m convinced there is a black hole somewhere in the school that sucks them in and they never come back.
- Please send your child’s water bottle and book bag into school every day.
- Our Year 1 PE day is on a Monday for Hedgehogs and Tuesday for Bumblebees.
- Reading books in school are changed once a week and this will be every Monday. The books will be collected in in the morning and a new one will be issued that same afternoon.
- Library book change will be on a Friday.
