Happy Valentine’s Day!
It’s the end of the first half term of 2025, I often think this is the toughest half term as a lot of us feel a bit urgh after the Christmas festivities and the weather is generally grey and a bit bleak. However, as I was driving to work this morning, I noticed that it wasn’t pitch black anymore. Spring is starting to think about making a reappearance which is lovely but I have tried hard this year to accept the beauty of winter, and it certainly does have its own merits. After all, there isn’t another season where it is acceptable to put your PJs on as soon as you get in from work, is there?
Anyway, back to business. There is an air of excitement in school today as the clock creeps closer and closer to the disco this evening. I don’t think I’ve seen this many sequins in one place since the final of Strictly and everyone is practising their moves. Thank you to TAFF for organising this event, it rounds off the term perfectly.
This week our lovely students planned and taught a unit of poetry to our Year 2s. The children wrote some fabulous space-based poems which have been collated and put in a special class book for everyone to enjoy. In maths, we have been measuring, weighing and reading scales to our hearts content. Using our knowledge of counting in 2s, 5s and 10s came in very handy. The children have carried out a reading comprehension activity in their guided reading sessions this week and they are getting very good at finding the information in the text to answer the questions.
Has anyone started their half term homework yet? The children are tasked with producing our Solar System. They can do this in any way they wish, craft, lego, poster, ICT, the list is endless. Our topic of space this term has really captured their imaginations so we cannot wait to take it forward with these projects. Please bring in the finished projects on our first day back after the holiday (MONDAY 24th FEBRUARY), so we can have a big Year 2 museum walk in the afternoon.
I think that’s it for now, have a lovely half term break, please remember to listen to your child read over the week so they keep those reading skills strong as they are making great progress.
Very kind regards
The Year 2 team.
