Local Education Authority

Tavistock Infant School was established in 1972. The school is a non-denominational school maintained by Hampshire Education Authority. Any information that parents require from the Education Authority can be obtained from:

Transport

Please make your own arrangements to take children to and from school. Our aim is to encourage the use of more sustainable modes of travel for journeys to and from school. However, if you do drive please note that there is no room in the staff car park for parents. Please park considerately around the school and in particular around Broadacres as it is important that we remain on friendly terms with our neighbours. Please help us to keep all our children safe.

Uniform

The school colours are pillar box red, white and grey.

Children do not need to wear uniform with the school logo on, but if you wish to purchase uniform showing the school logo you can order it from the Brigade Website.

Samples of uniform sizes are available at the school office.

Please ensure that all clothing is marked with your child’s name.

Children can wear:

  • Grey trousers, long or short
  • Grey, red or white socks or tights
  • Grey or white shirt/blouse, or red or white polo shirt
  • Red pullover, sweatshirt, cardigan or slipover
  • Grey skirt or pinafore dress
  • Summer dress or playsuit, which can be any red or red and white
  • Sensible black shoes
  • A suitable seasonal coat of any colour

P.E.

To enable your child to benefit from the physical education offered in our curriculum, I would ask you to provide the following items:

1 pair of gym shoes without laces
1 drawstring bag
T-shirt and shorts

School Clubs

Many opportunities exist for children to take part in lunchtime and after school activities. These include Multi-activities Club and Boogie Pumps. For details of days and times please contact the school office. These activities are run by outside organisations and there is a charge.

School Council

The School Council is made up of elected representatives who meet together to bring ideas and issues from the class council meetings to be discussed. Councillors meet with staff and governors to make decisions that help to improve our school. The School Council has worked with staff on the new playground arrangements and the Tavistock Lunchtime Charter. A few years ago they represented our school at a Fleet School Council Day where they worked on suggestions for improving road safety in our community.

Parents’ Corner

Visit Parents’ Corner in the school entrance hall for information about local and school events, holiday play schemes, school lunches, lunch box advice and much more.

Free Fruit and Vegetable Scheme

All children may have a piece of free fruit or vegetable each day for morning break. Children who cannot eat particular fruits or vegetables can bring their own healthy snack on request. All children should bring a bottle of water to drink during the day.

Lunchtimes

Children can have a free school lunch cooked on the premises or bring their own packed lunch. School meals are very carefully planned by the catering company Education Catering.
