Did you wear your hat, scarf and gloves this week?
It has been quite a chilly week this week and we have been remembering to wrap up warm during playtimes and lunchtimes, well done if you could fasten your coat by yourself and you did not lose your hat, scarf or gloves!
However, if they did go missing, please check the lost property in the Year 2 corridor.
As ever what a busy week we have had in Year 2! This week, in our English lessons, we have carried on with our ‘Toys in Space’ unit, we have had a go at writing advice notes using the vocabulary, should, could and would. We have also enjoyed writing space logs, party invitations and descriptive paragraphs. What a lot of writing, the pencils will definitely need a sharpen after all that hard work!
In maths we have been subtracting, bridging back to the previous ten and beyond. We have been using unstructured number lines to show our workings out and the children have really got to grips with the concept. Well done Year 2. Next week, we are moving onto adding a 2 digit number to another 2 digit number, lots of concentration needed, so everyone grab an early night for the next two weeks…
In our topic work, our lovely students have been carrying on with the history teaching and even as I write this blog, they are busy prepping next week’s learning for the children. As the weeks progress, they will be teaching more and more, so we are building up their stamina each week!
Thank you for all the applications for the ‘Sing from the Hart’ choir. We are finalising lists and the children will be told on Monday who is in the choir. An email will be sent out too. Please remember that we are only allowed to have 19 children in the choir so there will be some disappointed children, but if they haven’t been picked this time, there will be further opportunities at Junior School. If I had my way. I’d take everyone!
We are looking forward to talking to you next week at Parent’s Evening. It’s always nice to talk about the progress that the children are making as well as giving ideas of how you can support your child at home.
I think that’s it for now, have a lovely weekend and see you all on Monday. Don’t forget there’s a spelling test and it’s book change day.
Year 2 Team.
