Bursting with pride!

What a week we’ve had! All of the Year 2 staff are incredibly proud of the Christmas performances that the children have put on this week. Every single one of the children tried their best, they smiled from ear to ear and no one even fell off the stage – phew! Thank you so, SO much to everyone who came to support and watch the shows. Each classes performance will be put up onto Google Classroom on the class page by next week.

Thank you to the wonderful TAFF team for organising the Jingle Bell Brunch last weekend. The children were so excited to tell us all about the lovely craft stalls, delicious food and some special visitors that they were very lucky to meet, when they came into school on Monday.

In our maths lessons this week, the children were introduced the concept of ‘bridging’. This is a method that many people use (possibly without realising it!) to add numbers mentally. This mathematical strategy involves children using their number bonds to 10 as a base to work out number sentences where the answer is over 10.

For example:

This week, the children have loved looking at peacock feathers as part of their art learning. They were developing their sketching skills and needed to look carefully at the details on the feathers. After sketching their peacock feather, the children used watercolours over the top. This really bought their feather to life! Some photos from this can be seen on the Mole class page.

In our science learning, the children went out to the garden area and collected some data for a longitudinal study. Over the year, we will be looking at how many different bugs we can find in the school garden and see if it changes across the year. For example, will there be more butterflies or snails in the winter months? Why do you think this is? The children then went on to investigate different animal habitats.

Next Monday, we have our Reindeer Run! This is an event that I know the children always look forward to and it raises money for such an important cause. Thank you to everyone who has given in sponsorship money so far.

We have Christmas Jumper Day coming up on Thursday (12th). Any donations would be gratefully received. We look forward to seeing all of your wonderful jumpers!

Have a lovely weekend and we look forward to another week of fun next week!
