All Things Science

Happy British Science Week! We’ve indulged in lots of Science lessons this week, focussing on how animals survive, classification of animals, what an animal is and objects that are living, dead and never alive. We will also carry on lots of fun science next week including some experiments which the children will love!

This week in maths, we have been learning how to tell the time! We started off by learning about the layout of a clock face and what the minute and hour hand represents. We then practised telling the time using O’clock and half past the hour. Next week in maths, we will be looking at measurement. We will start with non-standard units, moving swiftly onto standard units. We will also be comparing and describe different lengths, widths or heights using the appropriate language.

In English, we have been learning about verbs, what a verb is and looking at lots of examples of verbs. We also reminded ourselves of time connectives. Towards the end of the week, we wrote a set of instructions of how to look after a dinosaur using everything we have learnt over the last few weeks. The outcome was amazing and the children were so proud of their writing. Next week, we will be creating fun fact files about dinosaurs and making a whole class book to put them in.

Just a few reminders:

  • Please make sure all your child’s belongings are labelled. Things do go missing and I’m convinced there is a black hole somewhere in the school that sucks them in and they never come back.
  • Please send your child’s water bottle and book bag into school every day.

PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE – Our Year 1 PE day is now on a Monday for Bumblebee Class and Tuesday for Hedgehog Class.

  • Reading books in school are changed once a week and this will be every Monday. The books will be collected in in the morning and a new one will be issued that same afternoon.
  • Library book change will be on a Friday.
