A fun-packed first week back!
Hello! It’s Miss Heafford here, I am your new author of the blog! I hope you all had a wonderful half term break and had lots of fun, whether you were busy carving pumpkins, watching the fireworks or just catching up on some much-needed sleep!
What an amazing first week back we have had in Year 2! On Tuesday, it was FIREWORK HAIR DAY! It was amazing to see so many incredible hair styles and hats! It must have been a mission to get all the hair dye and glitter out in the bath Tuesday evening…! Thank you so much for all of your generous TAFF donations this week.
This week, in our English lessons, we have been looking at riddles. We had a letter from the Riddle Monster who was looking for some brilliant animal riddles which he could gobble up. The children had so much fun thinking of the clues they could give for their chosen animal. I hope the Riddle Monster doesn’t look too closely at our English books and gobble them up too…!
In maths, we have been learning about the multiples of 2. The children were writing the repeated addition number sentences. For example 6 lots of 2 would be the same as 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2. We were also drawing arrays to match (hip-hip-ARRAY). Later in the week, they were introduced to the multiplication symbol. We referred to this as ‘times’, ‘lots of’ and ‘groups of’.
On Thursday, we may have just had the most exciting morning EVER! We were lucky enough to have a visit from ‘Spirit of the Wild’ who bought in lots of fascinating, exotic animals for the children to see and handle. Myself and Mrs Gadd were so proud of how sensible all of the children were and they remembered to stay quiet and calm to avoid frightening the animals. My personal favourite moment was stroking the two adorable meerkats that were almost a year old. Their names were Crackle and Pop… Snap, the third meerkat, had to stay at home as he is actually a little bit too snappy for the children to handle! Enjoy looking through the photos that Mrs Sloss has kindly put on the website! Thank you for your contributions to this visit – the children (and adults!) are incredibly lucky to experience exciting things like this 😊
The children who will be performing at Fleet Festivities in the choir, will have rehearsals start next week at lunchtimes. We apologise if they come home humming a Christmas tune at the start of November!
If you have put your name down as a parent helper for next week, you will need to sign in at the office before your timetabled slot and we are very much looking forward to welcoming you into class.
Things to remember:
- Please make sure all children have warm coats in school everyday now as we are now in November and we do always try and go out at play times (even if it is drizzling!).
- Please make sure all your child’s belongings are labelled, including gloves and hats!
- Please send your child’s water bottle, reading log and reading book into school every day.
- Our Year 2 PE day is on a Friday. Please make sure your PE kit is back in school.
- Reading books in school are changed once a week and this will be every Monday.
- Spelling tests are on Monday. Please check your child’s bag to see the results and see if there are any words that they need to practise further.
Have a lovely weekend and I will continue to look for where I can find some baby meerkats…
