Performing Super Stars!

WOW the children have blown us away with their performances this week! They all looked so gorgeous and sparkly up on the stage and so proud of themselves. Thank you all for your help in regards to their costumes and turning up to support your child. These little things mean so much to them. We are all very proud of them for learning all the songs, lines and actions. The videos will be available on Google Classroom shortly so you can re-watch the plays and share with family members.

In maths this week, we have been busy doubling. We started off by talking about what doubling means and then we moved onto doubling practically using various resources such as cubes, counters, dienes etc. We doubled the spots on the ladybirds and wrote the answer underneath. Finally, we used numicon to show our doubling skills and drew some in our maths books as well as writing the number sentences to match. Next week in maths, we will be looking at measurement. We will use the language taller and shorter, longer and shorter and measuring using non-standard units.

This week in English, we have carried on reading the popular book ‘Grumpy Badger’s Christmas’ by Paul Bright and Jane Chapman. We have been looking at a range of invitations and asking the children questions such as “what do you notice?” and “why do you think they are written like that?” etc. The children then had a phoneme session and had to find key words from the story to use in their own invitation. We then looked at using the word “and” to connect two ideas together and make our sentences longer. Finally, we looked at adjectives to describe the grumpy badger in the story and then wrote a letter to the other animals from the badger to apologise for being so grumpy. Next week, we will finish this unit of English by writing an invitation from the Grumpy Badger to all the woodland animals, inviting them to come for Christmas.

Next week, we will be doing lots of fun science lessons including naming materials, looking at the properties of materials, investigating the strengths and uses of each material and making predictions. The children will make parachutes using a material of their choice and we will see which materials work best and why. A really fun week!

Just a few reminders:

  • Please make sure all your child’s belongings are labelled. Things do go missing and I’m convinced there is a black hole somewhere in the school that sucks them in and they never come back.
  • Please send your child’s water bottle and book bag into school every day.
  • Our Year 1 PE day is on a Monday for Hedgehogs and Tuesday for Bumblebees.
  • Reading books in school are changed once a week and this will be every Monday. The books will be collected in in the morning and a new one will be issued that same afternoon.
  • Library book change will be on a Friday.

Dates:

  • 12th December – Christmas Lunch
  • 17th December – Year 1 Pantomime Trip
  • 20th December – Last Day of Term

We like to think of ourselves as a friendly and approachable team and if there is anything you have concerns about, please let us know and we will do our best to help.

Have a lovely weekend and see you next week!
