Thursday

The leaves are definitely falling from the trees and Mr C is doing a marvellous job of keeping the site clear. If you would like a bag of leaves for your own garden please help yourself. Actually you can have as many bags as you like because we are always happy to share. We also have a really good autumn song called Crunching Through The Leaves and if you’d like the words so you can sing on your way to school just ask.

I love this time of year even though I wish it would make up it’s mind so I would know whether to get my tights out or not! I am still wearing dresses that would be okay for summer at the moment and many of the children are coming in short socks but big coats just in case! Be prepared. DIB DIB DIB and all that.

We have been remembering in our assemblies in school this week obviously linked to Poppy Day and the children have been proudly talking about relatives who have served/still serve in the armed forces. It is such a hard concept because we always encourage the children to solve problems by talking, and at this age it is very difficult to explain why armed conflict does happen. I talked to the children about working in a Service School in Germany and how noisy it was when the Tornado jets flew over school. I didn’t go into detail that I was actually out there when the Gulf War was taking place and the service people from the base were deployed to the region. That time sticks in my memory and even though we don’t have as many service families as some schools, deployments are still happening and our thoughts should be with the families involved.

It is strange because I am clearing my decks in school at the moment ready for my operation on Saturday and Mrs J is ready and able to deal with absolutely anything. When we have inspector visitors they always say what a strong team we are which makes us very happy. All the staff at Tavistock work so hard and give their all to the children. The children in return give us nits, sick bugs, green candles and other lovely germs but we love them all the same! I am also getting prepared at home and because Mr O is no chef I will be eating dust and pot noodles for the next few weeks. I wonder if they do a turkey and stuffing one?

Have a lovely weekend when it arrives.

PS Don’t forget you are welcome to as many leaves as you would like.
