1 Week To Go

Here I am writing the last blog of the year already! Thank you for taking your time to read my waffle each week, sometimes I worry that what I’ve written doesn’t make sense. I do appreciate you persevering with me each time and for your kind words. I can’t believe the children are heading into Year 2. They are all very excited and have enjoyed spending time in their new classrooms with their lovely new teachers this week.

In English this week, we have been busy writing a letter to our new class teachers. We began the week with creating a poster about ourselves to gather ideas for our writing. After that, we recapped previous learning about questions and then wrote questions that we would like to ask our new teachers. Finally, we wrote our letter to our new teachers to inform them about ourselves and ask them any questions that we might have. In maths, we have been practising some of the skills we have learnt during the year. First, we worked systematically to find number bonds for 20, and then we solved reasoning problems using this knowledge. After that, we used our problem solving skills to solve a range of problems that focussed on concepts we have learnt throughout the year.

Next week is our final week in Year 1 with the last day for the children being Friday 19th July. We will spend some time reflecting on Year 1 and discussing what we are looking forward to over the summer. We will be reading The Colour Monster story by Anna Llenas to encourage the children to think about their feelings. We will also be doing arts and crafts activities across the week and rounding off with a film afternoon on Friday.

Thank you all again from the entire Year 1 team. We appreciate your support, encouragement and kind words which we cherish and we wish you and the children all the best for the future. Please make sure you come back and say hello at some point! We love to hear how you are getting on. “Never say goodbye because goodbye means going away and going away means forgetting.” – J.M.
