What a fun and busy week we have had here in Year 1! We kicked started our week with a fun and interactive dinosaur workshop. The children absolutely loved searching for fossils and identifying different dinosaur bones. If you haven’t seen them already, there are some photos on the school website. Thank you so much for all your donations of shoe boxes and natural materials. The children had a blast creating their dinosaur habitats and they do look fabulous! We’ve only got one more week of our Dinosaur topic but we do end it with a bang as we have a very fun Dinosaur workshop on Monday 31st March where the children will become palaeontologists and identify bones and hunt for fossils. What a fun way to end the week! The children enjoyed coming into school wearing the colour red or their own clothes to raise awareness for Red Nose Day. They also enjoyed designing their own red noses this afternoon – some of the designs should be put forward to the BBC they are so good! We also finished off our fun science lessons this week including food chains, habitats and learning more about fossils. Happy British Science Week! We’ve indulged in lots of Science lessons this week, focussing on how animals survive, classification of animals, what an animal is and objects that are living, dead and never alive. We will also carry on lots of fun science next week including some experiments which the children will love! This week in maths, we have been learning how to tell the time! What a great World Book Day we had on Thursday! The children looked fantastic dressed up in their costumes. We had such a variety of Lion King related characters and colour combinations. The children were so excited to show off their outfits during a catwalk we had in class. We spent Thursday afternoon in a Lion King Dance Workshop which was fantastic! As I am writing this blog, I can hear the children having a blast at the Valentine’s Disco organised by our lovely TAFF. The children have been so excited about the disco and then realising they have not got a week off from school. What a lovely, buzzing end to this half term! We’ve had a busy week here in year 1! The children enjoyed a wonderful e-safety workshop from OpenView Education on Thursday. It was all about how to keep safe online when using lots of different devices. The children were introduced to a variety of characters who talked about different aspects of keeping safe such as not talking to strangers, sending kind messages to our friends, asking a trusted adult if not sure on something and of course keeping all personal information safe. The children are noticeably more settled this week after the Christmas break. It does usually take a week or two to get back into the swing of things and picking up the same old routine. I’m sure some of them have grown a few inches too! We are absolutely loving our Dinosaur topic. So far, we have talked about the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous eras and we have been comparing what we think the world looked like during those periods. We’ve had such a fun final week here at school on the run up to Christmas. The Pantomime was a great success and the children absolutely loved it – we were lucky we didn’t get rained on this year! The children started the week with a visit from Santa whilst taking part in the reindeer run to help raise money for the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice. A huge thank you to Fleet Lions for participating in this activity! And thank you all for your kind and generous donations. WOW the children have blown us away with their performances this week! They all looked so gorgeous and sparkly up on the stage and so proud of themselves. What a fun week to end on! The children had a fantastic Great Fire of London workshop on Wednesday. They absolutely loved it! First of all, we learnt that the Great Fire of London took place the year after the Great Plague. We then learnt about the sequence of events that took place during the Great Fire of London. We indulged in some drama activities to re-enact the fire and to sequence the events, and we thought about the differences in people’s lives and what firefighting was like in the past. We are getting to that time of year where most people are developing a cough or sniffle of some sort. Some children had their nasal flu spray on Wednesday which I know they were really brave about. My only advice for this time of year is to keep taking your vitamins and wash your hands regularly. Common colds are hard to avoid, especially when children are involved! What another great week! On Wednesday, we enjoyed celebrating Harvest with our wonderful Harvest assembly. Thank you all so much for your generous donations, they always mean such a lot and of course they are donated to a worthy cause – The Lions Community Store. Autumn has certainly arrived! I’ve been for a few walks recently and started collecting conkers and leaves that have changed colour ready to share with the children. I even saw a badger walk across my front garden on my Ring doorbell the other night!
