1 week to go!

There’s been lots of sneezing, sniffles and tissues around Year 2 this week… it’s definitely almost time for the Christmas holidays as our tissue boxes are nearly empty!

We started off our week with our Reindeer Run which has raised a lot of money for such a special cause, Phyllis Tuckwell. Thank you for all of your donations. The children were VERY excited to meet a special visitor out on the playground too… ho ho ho!

Year 2 enjoyed designing and making their own clay Christmas baubles. They are currently drying, ready for painting next week. Time to get the metallic paints out!

On Thursday, it was wonderful to see so many amazing Christmas jumpers! They were so bright, cosy and colourful.

In our English learning, the children loved retelling the Christmas Story in their own little book. First, they sequenced the story and then they wrote sentences that went with each picture. It was great to see so many of them had remembered their capital letters for names! Yay!

In our maths learning, we have been focussing on 2D shapes, with particular focus on the trickier shapes (e.g. pentagon, hexagon, heptagon and octagon). We have also been learning about the difference between regular and irregular shapes. The children loved going on a regular/irregular present hunt at the end of the week. How many different shapes you can find around your home over the weekend?

Next week, we are going to the pantomime on Thursday morning. Please make sure your child is on time and brings a warm coat. They will also need a sensible water bottle which they will carry for the whole walk to the Harlington Centre.

We will be making some Christingles next Tuesday, so please make sure you bring in an orange for your child.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Heafford and the Year 2 team x
